His girlfriend Matthew PerryAthena Crosby — who was one of the last people seen with him before he died on Oct. 28 — revealed days ago that she wanted the 36-year-old “High School Musical” actor to star in his movie.
“He had worked with him Zac Efron previously in a film and said he wanted him to play him as a younger version [του εαυτού του] and that she would soon ask him to do it,” he told “Entertainment Tonight.” However, sources wanted Zac Efron to refuse the offer.
Crombie added: “He was just looking forward to sharing more about his story and his recovery from addiction and really championing this cause to help more people, so he was so upbeat and happy about everything he wanted to do.”

And then he said: “I admired him, I learned comic timing from this guy. I mean, when we were shooting ’17 Again’ it was so surreal for me to look across the street and see him there, because I learned so much from him, from his whole life.”
Recall that in the 2009 film, Efron plays the younger version of Perry’s character, Mike O’Donnell.
