The member of parliament for Rethymno and head of the Parliamentary Sector for Rural Development of PASOK – Movement for Change testified in the parliament, Manolis Chnaristhe request of the Hellenic Livestock Association for an immediate revision of ELGA’s compensation prices in plant and animal production.

Mr. Chnaris, filed the Report in the Hellenic Parliament, following it with no. prot. 268/20-9-2023 Letter of the Hellenic Livestock Association (SEK), through which the breeders express their strong concern about ELGA compensation prices in plant and animal production.

The said Report was co-signed by the secretary of the Parliamentary Group of PASOK – Movement for Change and Member of Parliament N. Larisa Evangelia Liakoulis and the MP of Etoloakarnania Christina Starakas.

In particular, the Hellenic Livestock Association points out that: “According to the last revision of ELGA made on 4/5/2023, the prices compensating crop production are proportional to the five-year period 2017-2021 and livestock proportional to the prices of 2010“, considering “… unacceptable to revise ELGA compensation prices in 2023 with prices of 2010 and 2017-2021, while the biggest increases in production costs and plant and animal products occurred in 2022 and 2023.”

Finally, the MPs list again the measures proposed by the body in question for breeders and farmers, due to the consequences of the devastating fires and floods that have taken place in recent months, mentioning more specifically: “…Compensations for the destruction of homes and buildings, creation of a network to accommodate flood victims, payment of all compensations for livestock infrastructure and losses of livestock…, legislation to protect first homes and livestock facilities… lifting of mortgages for properties that were destroyed, suspension of payment of debts to the State and EFKA for two years with simultaneous possibility of brave regulation, 100% compensation for destroyed or significantly damaged houses, reconstruction of livestock facilities, with 100% compensation from the state, as well as for machines and mechanical equipment in general…, compensations for lost animals…etc».

In conclusion, they underline that, because the contents of the aforementioned Letter document reasonable and fair requests, they requested the immediate initiation of all necessary relevant actions, as well as the relevant information of the Parliament.
