36 years ago, one of the most heinous crimes in the history of Greece was committed, with Panagiotis Frantzis strangling and then dismembering and throwing in the trash the body of his wife Zois Garmani, dismembered into eleven pieces.
Panos Sombolos spoke about the crime that shocked Greece, as a guest on the show “Two at 10”.
“I didn’t write what I read, what I heard, what they said. I experienced them. I was with colleagues all that I experienced. I saw him at security and he said “I didn’t do the crime”. He said it was an accident. How is it an accident? After the medical examiner finds that it was strangulation. Panagiotis said that while they were fighting, he pushed her, she fell, hit her head with the head iron and that’s how she stayed. He tried to justify himself like all the accused,” the journalist said.

He continued, saying that: “His father had also come to my office, we had contacts. He was a child from a good family, a well-rounded child. And that’s what we’re all wondering. How did he come to commit one of the most heinous crimes in our country? When the re-enactment of the crime took place in the presence of the prosecutor and the authorities, when he finished it, I took him into the room where the crime was committed. We went and he showed me everything. He had made an impression on me then and I asked him “how did you do it?”. And he told me “It’s easy if you take a knife and cut.” He was cool! Another time I saw him at security, he was lost, not in the best of shape. He avoided talking.”
Finally, Panos Sombolos commented that: “In the past we used to go to traffic accidents, to crimes and with the technicians we took all the footage. Mashed people we showed them on TV. Of course, this was not our phenomenon. This happened in other countries as well. Fortunately, it disappeared over the years. The other person is not obliged to turn on the television and see a mashed human. Frantzis was calm, answering the Prosecutor’s questions. So did the pilot in the Fresh Waters. The main characteristic of all perpetrators is that “I didn’t do it”.
Most of the killers of this type of criminal act, regret it. Still others are unrepentant. A policeman told me that he married a foreigner, had children and has the right to change his name. They told me I didn’t, he keeps it.”
