Today, Sunday, November 5, the archaeological sites, monuments and museums of the state open their doors free of charge to welcome the public.

Entrance to the archaeological sites, monuments and museums belonging to the State is free, without payment, on the first Sunday of each month from November 1st to March 31st of each year.

The entire decision of the Ministry of Culture

“Free entry to archaeological sites, monuments and museums belonging to the State”

1. The entrance to the archaeological sites, historical sites, monuments and museums which belong to the State and are managed by the YP.PO.A. is free for all visitors, without payment, on the first Sunday of every month from 1the November to March 31.

Also designated as free entry days for all visitors are 28 October (National Day), 18 April (International Day of Monuments), 18 May (International Museum Day), the last weekend of September (Two days of European Cultural Heritage Days) and March 6th (Day of Remembrance of Melina Merkouris).

2. The following are exempt from the obligation to pay the entrance fee:

a) children and young people up to 25 years of age from the member states of the European Union, by showing their identity card or passport to confirm their age and country of origin.

b) children up to 5 years of age from countries outside the European Union, upon presentation of their passport to confirm age and country of origin.

c) those over 25 years of age studying in secondary schools (evening schools, Second Chance Schools, EPA.L.) and vocational schools (EPA.S. OAED) of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Space, with the presentation of a certificate of attendance, on which its duration will be indicated.

d) accompanying teachers and trainees during educational visits to schools and institutions of the 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade education of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area.

e) the participants in the Social Solidarity Income (SSI) and their dependents, with the presentation of their police ID and certificate of entitlement to free entry due to participation in the SSI program, for the indicated period participation in the program in question, as well as a valid document certifying their dependents.

f) the holders of the national unemployment card, with the presentation of their police identity card and a valid unemployment certificate or its recent renewal.

g) persons with disabilities and one of their companions, the latter if the said disabled person has a disability of 67% or more, regardless of the country of origin, with the presentation of their police identity card or their passport and the E.F.K. Disability Certificate. A. (decision of the Disability Certification Center – KE.PA.) for the residents of the country or a similar certificate from a corresponding competent body abroad.

h) the parents of large families in the country until the children reach the age of 25 or regardless of age if they have a disability, with the presentation of their police ID and a certificate of multi-child status from the Supreme Confederation of Many Children of Greece (ASPE), in force, as well as a Certificate of Disability E.F.K.A. (decision of the Center for Disability Certification – K.E.P.A.).

i) the parents of three-child families in the country until the children reach the age of 25 or regardless of age if they have a disability, with the presentation of their police identity card and family status certificate from the Municipality, in force, as well as a Certificate of Disability E.F.K .A. (decision of the Disability Certification Center – KE.PA.).

j) the parents of single-parent families in the country until the children reach the age of 25 or regardless of age if they have a disability, with the presentation of their police identity card and family status certificate from the Municipality, in force, as well as a Disability Certificate E.F.K .A. (decision of the Disability Certification Center – KE.PA.).

k) refugees, upon presentation of an International Protection Applicant Card or Convention Travel Document of July 28, 1951 (passport of a recognized refugee) or Alien Travel Document (passport of a recognized beneficiary of subsidiary protection) or Residence Permit.

l) those serving their military service, with presentation of a valid Hoplite Identity Card.

m) the Greek Olympians, by showing their police ID and membership card of the Greek Olympians Association.

n) the official guests of the Greek State at the request of the appropriate Ministry (Directorate/Office of Etiquette), after approval by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage.

o) International Council of Museums (ICOM) and International Council of Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) membership card holders, upon presentation of their police ID or passport and valid ICOM/ICOMOS membership card.

p) the members of Societies and Associations of Friends of Archaeological Sites and Museums, which belong to the State and are managed by the Ministry of Tourism, upon presentation of the relevant membership card, in force.

q) the active employees of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Archaeological Resources and Expropriations Fund, the Acropolis Museum and the Kanellopoulos Museum, with the presentation of their official identity card.

r) the specialist scientists to whom a license is granted for the purpose of photographing, studying, drawing or publishing antiquities, upon presentation of the relevant license.

s) the members of the Greek Chamber of Visual Arts, upon presentation of a valid membership card.

k) local tour guides, with the presentation of their professional ID, and the students of the Guide Schools of the Ministry of Tourism, with the presentation of their student ID”

ms) journalists, with the presentation of journalistic identification, in force.

kv) the holders of a Free Entry Card, upon presentation of this.

c) the members of the Society of Greek Art Historians, upon presentation of a recognized membership card.

3. They are entitled to obtain a three-year free entry card, with the right to renew, which is issued by the competent Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. (https://www.culture.gov.gr/el/ministry/SitePages/viewyphresia.aspx?iID=1304) and the Citizen Service Centers of the Municipalities, upon submission of a simple application, two photographs and the required certificates as the case may be, the below:

a) the active members of the Central Councils and the Local Councils of Monuments of the Ministry of Culture and Sports (Decision in force, appointing them as members of said Councils of the Ministry of Culture and Sports).

b) the active members of the Boards of Directors of the Organization for the Management and Development of Cultural Resources, the Acropolis Museum and the Kanellopoulos Museum (Decision in force, appointing them as members of the Boards of Directors of the organizations in question).

c) the current Directors and members of Foreign Archaeological Schools in Greece (Certification of their status as Directors or members of Foreign Archaeological Schools in Greece).

d) The contracted employees of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Organization for the Management and Development of Cultural Resources, the Acropolis Museum and the Kanellopoulos Museum. The renewal of the Free Entry Card is possible as long as the professional relationship with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ODAP, the Acropolis Museum and the Kanellopoulou Museum continues (Employment contract or confirmation of their employment relationship with Ministry of Culture and Sports and the other agencies as the case may be).

e) retired employees of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, the Organization for the Management and Development of Cultural Resources, the Acropolis Museum and the Kanellopoulos Museum (Retirement decision or other relevant document, from which their pre-retirement employment relationship with the Ministry of Culture and Sports and the other agencies as the case may be).

f) the employees in the Office of the State Legal Adviser at the Ministry of Culture and Sports (Certification from the Central Service of the State Legal Council).

g) the educational officers of the first, second and third levels of education in the country (active and retired). In the case of substitutes and hourly teachers, the renewal of the Free Entry Card is possible as long as they exercise the educational function (Certification from the school or in general the educational institution in which they work or Pension Act respectively).

h) the graduates of the History and Archeology Departments of the Schools of Philosophy, as well as the Schools of Architecture, the Schools of Fine Arts, the Schools of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, including the Technical Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art, of the national or equivalent Schools of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area, as well as the holders of master’s and doctorate degrees from these schools (Study title (degree, master’s degree, doctorate as the case may be) of the respective Schools/Departments).

i) the graduates of Museum Studies and Schools and Departments of Cultural Management of the Higher Educational Institutions of the country or equivalent Schools of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area, as well as the holders of master’s and doctoral degrees of these schools (Title of studies (degree , master’s degree, doctoral degree as the case may be) of the respective Schools/Departments).

j) the students and graduates of the Preparatory and Professional School of Fine Arts Panormos Tinos (Certificate of attendance / graduation title as the case may be of the Preparatory and Professional School of Fine Arts Panormos Tinos).

k) serving police officers in the Department of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities of the Security Directorates (Certificate of service in said Department of the Security Directorates).

For the Renewal of the Pass, the presentation of the expired Pass is required in addition to the above supporting documents.

For Replacement due to loss, in addition to the above supporting documents as the case may be, a responsible declaration for the loss of the Free Entry Pass is required.

In order to serve them better, it is preferable that applicants for the above Bulletin contact the Services of their place of residence.

Reduced single ticket prices
1. A reduced price is set for individual tickets, amounting to approximately 50% of the respective normal price, which, during the period from April 1 to October 31, the following are entitled to pay:

a) children and young people aged 6 to 25 from countries outside the European Union, upon presentation of their passport to confirm age and country of origin.

b) Greek citizens and citizens of the other member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area over 65 years of age, upon presentation of their identity card or passport to confirm age and country of origin.

c) accompanying parents on educational visits to primary schools of the member states of the European Union and the European Economic Area.

d) the accompanying teachers during educational visits to schools and institutions of the 1st grade, 2nd grade and 3rd grade education in countries outside the European Union.

2. During the period from November 1st to March 31st the reduced price of individual tickets applies to all visitors.
