The intervention of the head of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor’s Office, Antonis Eleftherianou, was caused by the accident that occurred in the office that houses the Criminal Registry, at the Court of Appeal of Athens, with the collapse of metal shelves that injured a court official and a citizen.
Mr. Eleftherianos ordered a criminal preliminary examination in order to establish whether offenses such as that of negligent bodily harm have been committed ex officio.
As part of the investigation, statements will be taken from victims, documents will be requested from the Labor Inspectorate, relevant installation and maintenance documents of the equipment at the site where the accident occurred will be checked, and it will be searched if any related complaint was made about misdemeanors in the maintenance of the site that possibly sound the alarm before the shelves collapse.
