Criminal preliminary investigation of the accident at the Court of Appeal
A preliminary criminal investigation into the accident at the Court of Appeal in Athens where metal shelves collapsed and injured two people was ordered by the head of the Athens District Attorney’s Office, Antonis Eleftherianos.
As part of the investigation into the accident at the Court of Appeal, where a court official and a citizen were injured when the shelves collapsed, it will be established whether ex officio offenses such as tortious bodily harm have been committed.
For the purposes of the investigation, the victims will be examined as witnesses, while documents will be requested from the Labor Inspectorate, relevant documents of installation and maintenance of the equipment in the office where the accident occurred will be checked, among other things.
According to sources of the Ministry of Justice, cited by ERT, the Administration of the Court of Appeals which has the competence had not informed the ministry, in order to approve the necessary funding to deal with the problem. The last time he addressed the ministry, the agency responsible for issues of insufficient maintenance, was in February 2019.
The investigation was undertaken by the First Instance Prosecutor Nikolaos Margaritis.
