The 2nd Solidarity Film Festival Killah P in memory of Pavlos Fyssas starts today

Today begins the 2nd Solidarity Film Festival Killah P in memory of Pavlos Fyssas, which will be held until November 5, 2023 in Keratsini and Drapetsona, the place where the anti-fascist artist was born and lived.

At the press conference held a few days ago, Magda Fyssa attended and said the following:

“Cinema as a form of art and expression has always helped to preserve History and captured memories intact in time. The usefulness of art through audio-visual media helps to preserve not only historical data but also the emotions of the people who experience the problems of each era which they express through cinema. These creators are helpful in dealing with ignorance and freedom of expression which is now more important than ever as we experience regimes that should have been consigned to the annals of history. But above all, and this is the most optimistic part of this festival, dedicated to the memory of Pavlos, is the participation of young children from various schools throughout the country. Because as he himself believed and as we all support, the future of every country lies in the hearts of these children who we try to keep innocent and pure from the forms and miasmas of fascism. What we hope to achieve with this festival is to inform, educate and to a large extent create the means to help the seeds of empathy flourish.”

SCREENING PROGRAM of the 2nd Solidarity Film Festival Killah P

The Solidarity Festival started in 2021 in the context of the memorial events of Pavlos Fyssas (Killah P), treating cinema as a tool of personal cultivation and collective expression, which can contribute to building a world free from the poison of fascism, racism, social exclusions and war. A world where diversity will not divide, but unite people in a colorful and diverse community.

Renewed this year, and with an even richer program, it will show 60 short and feature films, with a socio-political theme and an emphasis on solidarity, minority rights, but also opposition to racism, sexism, homophobia, nationalism and war , stereotypes, intolerance, violence and visible or invisible fascism.

Films of all kinds, recently produced, anti-racist, anti-fascist, and broader socio-political themes (LGBTQI+, ageism, racial issues, neo-Nazism, etc.) will be screened. Awards for participation in the festival will be awarded by the Cultural Association “Pavlos Killah P Fyssas” as well as honorary awards from the Federation of Film Clubs of Greece (OKLE).

More than 2000 films were submitted to the festival this year.

The screenings will take place 200 meters from the monument of Pavlos Fyssas: at the Melina Merkouri Cultural Center (Em. Benaki 70, Keratsini) and at the Antonis Samarakis Cultural Center (Mikras Asias 24 & Papanastasiou, Keratsini).
