Doctors at Sainte Musse Hospital in Toulon, France, couldn’t believe their eyes when an 88-year-old man went to the emergency room with a… projectile in his anus.
“From 9 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening an emergency occurred which required the intervention of firemen, the evacuation of adult and pediatric emergencies and the diversion of incoming emergencies,” said a hospital spokesperson.
Bomb disposal experts who rushed to the scene determined that there was little chance of the missile exploding.
“They reassured us that it was a World War I collectible used by the French army,” the hospital said.
Stunned doctors then began the process of removing the object from the man’s rectum.
“An apple, a mango or even a bottle of shaving foam, we’re used to finding objects inserted where they shouldn’t be,” said one doctor.
Doctors had to take the elderly man to surgery to remove the bullet.
According to the hospital, he is now “in good health” and is expected to make a full recovery from the operation.
