American mountaineer Hillary Nelson has been found dead.

Famed mountaineer Hilary Nelson, who fell 600 meters while attempting to descend Mount Manaslu in the Himalayan range, has been found dead after two days of searching.

The search and rescue team located the body of the 49-year-old American woman, just below the summit of Mt. According to the first information, it seems that he fell into a deep crack in the ice.

Nelson, 49, slipped and appeared to fall into a 600-meter gap in the ice just 15 minutes after reaching the summit of the 26,781-foot peak, according to witness accounts.

A local guide working with the pair told Outside magazine that other climbers with them reported that “her ski blade slipped and [αυτή] fell from the other side of the peak.’

Nelson was one of the best mountaineers of her generation and in the last 20 years she had carried out about 40 expeditions. In fact, in 2018, together with her partner Jim Morrison, they became the first to ski down from Mount Loche in Nepal. At the same time, she was the first to climb Everest and Loche in 24 months.

As the BBC reports, Jim Morrison and the Himalayan Sherpas dropped into the area by helicopter in order to retrieve Nelson’s body. Once the necessary procedures are completed her lifeless body will be taken to Kathmandu. It is noted that according to the statements of one of the members of the rescue team, the body of the 49-year-old woman was half buried in the snow, while it took about an hour and a half to retrieve her.
