The mission to Nepal was her last famed mountaineer Hilary Nelson who was found dead after several days of searching. The rescue crews found the body of the 49-year-old a little below the top of Mount Mansalou. According to American media, the mountaineer appears to have fallen into a deep crevasse in the ice, resulting in her death.
Nelson was one of the best mountaineers of her generation and in the last 20 years she had carried out about 40 expeditions. In fact, in 2018, together with her partner Jim Morrison, they became the first to ski down from Mount Loche in Nepal. At the same time, she was the first to climb Everest and Loche in 24 months.
As it conveys the BBC Jim Morrison and the Himalayan Sherpas dropped into the area by helicopter to retrieve Nelson’s body. Once the necessary procedures are completed her lifeless body will be taken to Kathmandu. It is noted that according to the statements of one of the members of the rescue team, the body of the 49-year-old woman was half buried in the snow, while it took about an hour and a half to retrieve her.
At the same time, the post made by Jim Morrison on Instagram on the occasion of Hilary Nelson’s death is touching. As he typically says “day by day she was the beacon of my life”, while describing the moment his partner was lost forever. More specifically, she says she was skiing in front of her and then a small avalanche started. It then drifted down a narrow slope. “I did everything I could to locate her but I couldn’t. I hoped I would find her alive and live the rest of my life with her,” he adds.
