Our national team will play in the short final on Sunday (25/9) at 18:30 (Greece time) against Hungary, with the aim of climbing to the European podium and giving Greek sports another medal.

The National Young Men’s polo team fought hard and in the semi-final of the European Championship against Spain, they showed passion and soul, they confirmed that they are rightfully in the elite of the sport in this age category, but they were defeated in the details by the “furious rocha” with 12- 11, on Friday night (23/9) in Podgorica and will now compete for the bronze medal of the event.

Hungary had earlier been beaten 18-17 by Serbia in the first semi-final, which was also a shocker and was decided on penalties.

Our internationals were evenly matched against the Spaniards for most of the match, with combativeness and good defense. But an inhibiting factor for the Greeks to have the upper hand, was the very mediocre percentage of the man above, just 5/13, as the Spaniards played a tough and effective defense, mainly in the man less and neutralized some of the attacking assets of the team of the Knife.

Despite this and despite the fact that Spain led with two goals, 8-6, 9-7, and 10-8 in the middle of the third eight minutes, our National Team reacted and equalized at 10-10 initially (with Gilla, who was also our top scorer with 5 goals) and 11-11 afterwards (5.18 before the end with Puro). The Spaniards made it 12-11 in their favor through Gomila at 2.10 before the final and Greece had no answer, not even in the last attack with a man up.
