A historic moment for the Italian brand is the presentation of its first SUV, with four doors and seats for four passengers.
Ferrari may not call it an SUV, but Purosangue is the first creation from Maranello in this category. The Purosangue (meaning “pure blood” in Italian) is Ferrari’s first four-door, four-seater, putting it in the exclusive club of performance SUVs.
The aerodynamically designed body with its long hood, sporty silhouette and large wheels reaches a length of 4.97 m, with a height of 1.59 m. The long wheelbase of 3 m and the opposite opening rear doors create a spacious interior for 4 passengers.
In the past there were Ferrari models with 2+2 seats (the two in the back were aimed at children), but the Purosangue is a real four-seater and therefore the most practical in the brand’s 75-year history, if you include the 473-liter luggage space.
To stand out from the competition and against the downsizing trend, Ferrari chose to equip the Purosangue with V12 engine. In fact, it is the same 6.5 liter capacity that we know from the 812 Superfast. Front mounted, the naturally aspirated engine produces for the occasion 725 hp at 7,750 rpm. The maximum torque of 716 Nm appears at 6,250 rpm, but 80% is available from quite low, i.e. from 2,100 rpm.
The V12 is combined with 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissionwhile the drive goes to all wheels through an advanced version of it 4RM-S four-wheel drive system of the GTC4 Lusso. Active suspension through the True Active Spool Valve system, which combines a 48-volt motor and hydraulic shock absorbers, is a premiere for Purosangue.
All the above and the 49/51% weight distribution, promise the authentic behavior of a Ferrari in an SUV body. And of course the performance is in line with the tradition of the Italian brand: 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 10.6 sec. and a maximum speed of more than 310 km/h for the car that weighs more than 2,000 kg.
As for its price, Ferrari did not announce anything related, but we guess that it will exceed 300,000 euros for the 812 Superfast.
