Today’s presentation of the Xperia 5 IV marks Sony’s substantial return to flagship phones with a compact design.
It is a device that borrows many elements from the flagship but also comes with features and capabilities that we see for the first time in a Sony device. More specifically, it is the first Xperia 5 device to feature Real-time Eye AF and Real-time tracking technologies in all lenses – technologies found in the company’s mirrorless cameras – for capturing impressive portraits.
It also has a 12MP front camera that is optimized for ultra-sharp selfies and 4K HDR videos even in low-light conditions and supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging (battery share). Its battery has a capacity of 5,000mAh despite its smaller dimensions compared to other devices.
The device is based on Qualcomm’s well-known Snapdragon® 8 Gen 1 platform and features a 6.1-inch diagonal HDR OLED display with a 21:9 aspect ratio that supports FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate, as well as a 240Hz touch sampling rate for excellent responsiveness. The display is 50% brighter than any other fitted to an Xperia 5 series device and is equipped with Real Time HDR Drive for excellent color fidelity and high-quality imaging even in extremely bright conditions.
The screen combined with the quality full-stage stereo speakers (Hi-Res Audio) and Dolby Atmos technology offers, according to Sony, a cinematic experience when playing high-quality content. Let’s mention at this point, that the device like every device of the Japanese company has IP65 protection for water and IP68 for dust while both the screen and the back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
At the back, the device is equipped with a basic triple camera system, with all sensors having a resolution of 12MP. The image sensors -120fps read-out speed- located behind all three lenses, allow 4K slow-motion video capture at 120fps for stunning, cinematic shots, while with Videography Pro mode, the user can stream content directly to video services streaming.
As we mentioned, the device has a 5,000 mAh battery, which can charge to 50% in just half an hour. It will be available from mid-September in Black, Green and Ecru White with a currently unknown price.
