On May 7 the presentation of the new iPads by Apple – Apple

--

Apple is set to make a series of new product announcements on Tuesday, May 7, at 5:00 p.m. ET, according to an invitation sent to select members of the press and posted on the company’s website a while ago.

While the name of the event, “Let Loose,” offers little insight into the specifics of the announcements, the accompanying artwork of a hand holding an Apple Pencil strongly suggests that the event will focus primarily on iPads.

The latest rumors from late March talked about the imminent release of new iPads from Apple, accompanied by the key details. The star of the event is expected to be a pair of new iPad Pros, which will incorporate the M3 SoC, will have OLED screens, slightly larger screens and minor design changes. Apple’s flagship tablets will likely come with a refreshed 10.9-inch iPad Air with an M2 chip and an all-new 12.9-inch Air, offering iPad fans a more affordable alternative to the big-screen iPad Pro.

In addition to the new iPads, reports suggest that Apple will also introduce refreshed Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard accessories. While there is a possibility of upgrades to other iPads in Apple’s lineup, such as the 9th generation iPad, the iPad mini and the 10th generation iPad, current rumors suggest that this particular event will mainly focus on the high-end models.

Spring product events are not unusual for Apple, although they usually take place in March or April. The May event comes just a month before Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June, where the company is expected to unveil the next versions of its operating systems, with an emphasis on features based on creative artificial intelligence. In March, Apple announced a new MacBook Air through a press release without holding a special event.

The launch of new iPads would mark Apple’s first tablet launch in over a year, as the company hasn’t announced a single new iPad throughout 2023, the first time that’s happened since the company’s original tablet debuted in 2010.

Although iPads are expected to be the main focus of the event, Apple could also use the opportunity to announce other non-iPad products. Desktop Macs such as the Mac Mini and Mac Studio are also set to incorporate some version of the M3 chipset, although newer rumors suggest that Apple may go directly from the M2 to the M4 specifically for the Mac Mini.
