Would you believe it if someone told you that you can now bring the pearly iridescence of shells into your manicure? The answer should be yes, since seashell nails are the new cool trend that deserves to be on your summer mani radar. In fact, celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Megan Fox gave in to the now famous nail trend by taking off their appearances. Would you try it?

The tendency

As their name suggests, “seashell nails” are inspired by the pastel shades and pearl effect we see on seashells. For this manicure, nail artists use different chrome pigments with an iridescent finish, to achieve this impressive effect that is very reminiscent of the iridescence of a mermaid’s tail, and it is very easy to create them yourself. Based on the mermaidcore and fairycore aesthetic, which dominates the beauty trends lately, it is the ideal mani for spring and summer. Complete your mermaid look with a wet hair look and bright makeup and you’re ready for your summer getaways.

Many consider the “seashell nails” to be the evolution of the “glazed donut” manicure, since it offers the same impressive, shiny effect, but with a playful twist, while some others are quick to argue that it is the trend that came to replace the “clean girl” manicure with its neutral shades. After all, it is no coincidence that trends such as “velvet nails”, “chrome nails” or “naked glitter nails” have gained enormous popularity in recent months and have received a big “yes” from celebrities.

How to achieve them

If you want to achieve a “seashell” manicure yourself at home, then all you have to do is get the right “tools” and follow the steps below:

  1. First, file your nails to give them the desired shape. If you want to imitate Kylie Jenner’s manicure that we recently saw on her Instagram profile and created by the famous nail artist, Zola Ganzorigt, then you will give them an almond shape.
  2. Then, apply a clear base coat to all your nails and let it dry very well.
  3. It’s color time! Creamy white, midnight blue, pastel gray, lilac, light blue and the mint tone are the predominant shades you will find in seashell nails all over the internet. Choose the one that suits you best and apply two coats of it on your nails. Wait until the paint is very dry. Alternatively, you can also use chrome nail polishes to instantly achieve this pearl effect.
  4. Complete your manicure by applying a rich layer of a shiny top coat, which, however, should not be transparent, but more holographic, so as to create subtle iridescence on the nails and thus obtain that impressive effect of “seashell” nails.
