The PlayStation 5 continues unabated and is approaching a huge sales milestone

THE Sony has just published its financial results for the most recent quarter, revealing new statistics on its path PlayStation 5 in the market, which continues to do well.

Specifically, thanks to the various discounts and promotions, within the given period, i.e. the quarter ended on September 30, another 4.9 million PS5s were sold. This corresponds to a significant increase of 48% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. In total, as of September 30, 46.5 million PS5s have been soldsince the console hit the market in 2020. That means Sony is extremely close to the massive 50 million milestone.

Of course, with the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 in October and Black Friday in November, that milestone won’t be long. Sony has made some very ambitious predictions for the next half-year, as it believes it will sell another 16.8 million consoles. In particular, it had predicted that 25 million PS5s would be sold in total in the fiscal year ending in March 2024. So far, it has shipped 8.2 million systems to stores in the first six months of this fiscal year. So, it remains to be seen if she will be able to reach her big goal.

Speaking to investors about this very goal, Sony President, COO and CFO, Hiroki Totoki, emphasized:

It’s not something we can achieve very easily, but we believe that sales at the end of the year are the most important period, and during that period we have a new model and Spider-Man 2. So we want to keep our target .

Moving on to PlayStation Network, monthly active users (MAU) increased by five million over last year to 107 million in total. Finally, software sales (PS4 and PS5) increased by 5.1 million over last year, to 67.6 million units. Digital accounted for 67% of quarterly game sales, compared to 63% last year.
