Serena Williams fought back but was bowed in the third round of the US Open by Ajla Tomljanovic in 2-1 sets and bid an emotional farewell to her home crowd in the final matches of her illustrious career.

In the early hours of Saturday (3/9) h Serena Williams gave the last performance of her great career. The 40-year-old American, who had announced last August her intention to retire from action immediately after the US Open, fought until the last moment, but was eventually bowed by Ajla Tomljanovic.

The Australian tennis player who advanced to the US Open 4th round for the first time in her career, defeating Williams in 2-1 sets (7-5, 5-7, 6-1).

Serina said goodbye emotionally and with tears in her eyes to the world that idolized her, on a day that will go down in history. “I am so grateful for every person who has ever shouted “Go Serena” in their life. You have supported me for decades. It was a fun trip.

Thank you dad, I know you’re watching. Thank you mom. It all started with my parents, I am so grateful to them. These are tears of joy, I guess. I wouldn’t be Serena if it wasn’t for Venus. Thank you Venus”, said the Queen of tennis after the match.
