Arne Slott is the Liverpool manager’s choice to replace Jurgen Klopp as manager of the British club when the 56-year-old German coach leaves at the end of the season.

The Reds, as reports abroad reported late last night, reached an agreement with Feyenoord and the 45-year-old coach will take over the technical leadership of Liverpool in the summer.

Slott’s move from Feyenoord to Liverpool will cost the Reds over €10 million, according to reports abroad.

The Dutch coach was mentioned a few hours ago by Jurgen Klopp, who even praised him for the excellent work he has done at Feyenoord. “I like the way his team plays football. From what I hear about him, he seems like a nice guy. If he is the solution for the next day, I can’t wait to see him at Liverpool,” the German said.

Slott’s course

Slott began his coaching career in July 2013, initially as a coach at Zwolle’s youth team. The following summer (2014) he became an assistant coach at Campur and in 2017 he moved to Alkmaar, taking up the same position. In the summer of 2019, he took over as first manager and remained on the bench of the Dutch team until December 2020, having 32 wins, 16 draws and 10 losses in 58 games (118-52 goals, 112 total points).

In July 2021, he took over the technical leadership of Feyenoord, with which he has played 145 games so far, with a record of 94 wins, 27 draws and 24 losses, with 334-154 goals and 309 points (2.13 per match). During this time he has won two titles. In the 2022/23 season the championship and this year the Cup. Last year Feyenoord played the best football in the country and one of the most beautiful in Europe.

The excellent performances of the Dutch team in the last two years and especially in last season, made Arne Slott the talk of the town, with the 45-year-old technician skyrocketing his shares on the football stock market and now being the choice of the Liverpool management for his replacement Steal.

The reasons for choosing Slot

Slott is a devotee of Guardiola’s football, with the Dutchman even citing the Catalan coach’s style of play as an example to emulate. He usually lines up his team in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, with the two full-backs constantly moving up and the wings converging inside. In defense, he chooses his players to press continuously, with Slott’s defensive plan starting from the center forward. In this way he creates problems for the opposing team, destroying the build up and the “building” of the attacks.

At other times the Dutch coach chooses for his team to wait in their own half and strike on the counter, with the system in this case turning into a 6-3-1, making it difficult to accept phases from the opposition. Liverpool people feel that his style of play could “snap” to the British team, with Slott also excellent at handling difficult situations, but also the way he conveys his passion to his players.

The Dutchman has his own way of conveying to his players what he wants. Many times he even does it unorthodoxly. In his first training session at Feyenoord, he showed footage of the 2021 Champions League final between Chelsea and Manchester City, while asking his players why there were so few phases, despite both teams having world-class footballers on their rosters. On this video, Arne Slott “pressed” to show the team modern football, stressing to his players how important continuous pressing is.

On the path that Guardiola carved out

The 45-year-old in training makes a lot of use of the rondo, as Guardiola does in his City counterparts, with the Dutchman prohibiting his players from passing the ball to the passer. In this way, Slot improves the circulation of the ball and the creation of phases in the opposing frames. He also places great emphasis on the competitive improvement of his footballers, with Jimenez being a typical example. When he went to Feyenoord he had scored just four goals in the Mexican league, while this year alone he has scored 21 goals (s.s. in 29 matches).

The Mexican has shown rapid development, in which Slott has played a key role, with the Feyenoord striker steadily improving to become one of the hottest centre-forwards in European football. The Dutch manager has all the makings to stand at the top level and continue Jurgen Klopp’s great work, with Liverpool people eyeing him as the ideal replacement for the German coach.
