Olympiacos “pressed” Ferentsvaros with 10-8 in Piraeus and sets a bow for the Final 4 in Malta.

The Red and Whites equaled the margin by which they had lost in Hungary and could have even claimed a wider victory but conceded two goals in the final. Now the two teams are tied at the top of the group and there are only two games left to see if the Piraeus can remain alone first.

The game started with both teams finding their footing and making several mistakes in the offensive part. So the first goal was late in coming and it was for Ferentsvaros. A serious mistake by Olympiakos brought Yansik face-to-face with the goal, who made no mistake and made it 1-0. The response of the Red and Whites came with Genidounias catching an impressive shot and leveling the game at 1-1, which was also the result of eight minutes.

In the second period, Olympiacos took the lead with a well-placed penalty kick by Vamos, with the Hungarians leveling at 2-2 thanks to Madic’s goal. Somewhere there, however, the Piraeus had an impressive outburst, making a 3-0 run with two goals from Gila and one more from Vamos, closing the half at 5-2.

Ferencvaros started strongly in the third period, scoring two quick goals with Varga and Madic to cut to 5-4. But Olympiacos was not affected and found a rhythm by answering with the same number of goals from Dimos and Papanastasiou for 7-4. Then a goal by Paul and one by Papanastastiou for each team made it 8-5 to end the period.

As in the third eight minutes, so in the fourth, Ferentsvaros started with a goal, reducing to 8-6 with Argyropoulos. Olympiacos found solutions with Nikolaidis and Gila, making it 10-6 and more than covering the difference from the first match. But the Hungarians, with goals from Di Soma and Fekete, were able to collect the… damage in the two goals (as in the first match) for the final 10-8.
