Djokovic sportsman of the year at the ‘Oscars’ of sport, the Laureus Awards – Pictures from the red carpet

Novak Djokovic made history as he won for the 5th time in his career the title of the best athlete of the year, at the Laureus Awards, the “Oscars” of world sports.

This year’s awards took place in Madrid, with the guests arriving in their … well and the athletes appearing in impressive gowns on the red carpet.

With his 5th title, Djokovic equaled Roger Federer’s record, while the corresponding women’s title was won by a soccer player, Aitana Bonmati from Spain.

Spain’s national women’s soccer team won the best team award, while Simone Biles won the “comeback of the year” award.

Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham was the winner in the ‘appearance of the year’ category, while tennis player Dide de Groot was named the top disabled athlete.
