The list of four strong names for the Port. How did the Portuguese winger who made the difference against PAOK come about and why his transfer changes the facts ahead of the summer.

When at the beginning of last January, Olympiacos paid 3 million euros to Monaco for the acquisition of Gelson Martins, everyone commented that this is a super quality and influential player. But also that the people of Piraeus keep an open line of communication with the French market

As many times as he has played, the international Portuguese ace has left an excellent impression – Except that he does not play often, due to injuries. For this and the previous period he had decided to go to Barcelona to see a doctor he trusted, as a result of which he was left behind in relation to his teammates at Rentis.

In fact, regardless of his image in the derby with PAOK, 100% the Portuguese will be back in the summer training, in order for everyone to be sure that no new problem will arise until the end of the season when he will rest. Until then he will protect himself as much as possible, he will not be pressed, he will not catch 100%.

Nevertheless, his quality is not hidden, he is a super influential player, with talent, a stirrer, and it is not by chance what he has achieved in his career: He has played 20+ times with the Portuguese national team (in a position, in fact, where there is a huge multitude of options), he has played for Sporting Lisbon, Atlético Madrid and Monaco, his market value has reached 35 million euros and, in total, they have paid in transfers fees for him close to 55 million euros!

“Influential – That’s why he didn’t play in Monaco – 3 million euros for his transfer is not much”

sportdog contacted the journalist Michalis Sinako, who knows Z. Martins very well from his time in Monaco, in order to comment on his career at the Port.

He was an influential player in Monaco, as many times he has played with Olympiacos. Whenever he entered the pitch you could tell he was going to do something. But whenever he got a chance to be a starter, he disappeared. More than a bench made the difference. At Olympiakos, I don’t know why he doesn’t start in matches, but whenever he plays he shows that he is influential“, said the good fellow first.

At Olympiakos he shows a vulnerability to injuries – Did he have the same problem in Monaco?

“In general, he had frequent absences, but more of deformation, because he had fluctuations in his performance. Although you always understood that he is a valuable player.”

Where was he used in France?

“He played on the right wing, that was his natural position. He is not a 10-man, he has a mind to play on the line better. He has a good technique, we also see that at Olympiakos. He is not Valbuena, of course, but he stands out.”

Olympiacos, however, had paid 3 million euros to acquire him.

“He had a positive sign in Monaco, he gave the feeling that he could make a difference. He did something, there were expectations. And in Portugal he had a good name. In this sense, I don’t think that the three million that Olympiacos had given to get him”.

Gelson Martins who will bring another Gelson Martins!

As we mentioned at the beginning of the topic, the arrival of Zelson Martins to Olympiakos shows (once again) that the Piraeus’ relationship with the French market continues to remain open. Something we will meet next summer again.

Are there any solutions that might concern Olympiakos from French football? Countless! Can we somehow harvest them? Of course, based on the manager’s office that brought Gelson Martins to Greece and the cases in which it is possible/realistic for them to come to the Super League: That is, not the striker Alexander Isak (Newcastle), who has a market value of 70 million euros, or the goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa) who has mv at 28 million euros. But footballers who can find motivation to come to Greece. As was the case last summer with Kirill Despontov (who, initially, his manager had recommended him to Olympiakos, regardless of whether Antonio Cordon had not been involved!) and Lucas Boge.

YASIN AGIARY: Mandalou position (8-man, who under conditions also plays on the wings), Mandalou sloop, but more delicate, quality and aggressive. Just 20 years old, international with the Men’s team of Sweden (and all its minor national teams), market value at 5 million euros, he has a contract with Brighton until 2027 but this year he was loaned to Blackburn (Championship). Can he come to Olympiakos? If we put Nottingham Forest in the picture as a prospect for later, why not?

ROBIN QUAYSON: He had employed again two or three years ago. Attacker of the Jovetic type (ie second striker as well as winger), 30 years old, Swedish international, with a market value of 4 million euros and in the summer he is free from Al Etifaq (he has also played in Palermo and Mainz with success). He can come and upgrade the attack line of Piraeus.

DANILO BARBOSSA: An international Brazilian defensive midfielder who also plays as a stopper, with a stint in France (now playing for Botafogo), he was offered again to Olympiakos and also to AEK. He is 28 years old, he doesn’t need time to adapt to Europe, it wouldn’t be a bad solution.

ELIAS ACHOURI: winger with 5 goals and 13 assists this year, plays with both feet, is under contract with Copenhagen until the summer of 2027. Only because of both Biel and Nottingham Forest (and Scott McKenna’s loan to the Danes), there is open line of communication with the Copenhagen administration.
