Carlo Ancelotti’s and Xavi’s choice to start the Clasico with Modric and Yamal respectively, created an incredible record with the two leading players in the history of Barcelona-Real games.
Carlo Ancelotti likes to trust the most seasoned players in the Barcelona derby and Xavi, on the other hand, has no qualms about throwing hot young players into the fire against Real.
With that in mind, the Italian’s choice to use Luka Modric in the Merengues’ starting line-up and the Catalan’s choice to start Lamin Yamal came as no surprise, but they were enough to make history.
The reason has to do with the numbers accompanying the two footballers on their IDs, with the age difference between Modris (the Croatian 38 years and 225 days) and Lamin Jamal (the Spaniard 16 years and 228 days) being 21 years and 307 days, which is the longest difference between the two “eleven” players in Clasico history.
