In a very beautiful open ceremony at New Beach, Thessaloniki welcomed the Olympic Flame into the “heart” of the city three months before the start of the 33rd Olympic Summer Games, which will be held in Paris from July 26 to August 11.
A multitude of Thessalonians attended torch relay from the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki to the Umbrellas of Zongolopoulosin a… stop of the historical flame on its way to the capital of France.
THE torchbearer and Olympic champion, Tasoula Kelesidoulit the Olympic Flame together with the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, next to the emblematic Umbrellas of Thessaloniki and with the crowd bursting into applause.
Then it happened echo of the Olympic Anthem, the National Anthem of France and Greece by the Symphony Orchestra of the Municipality of Thessaloniki, while at the same time the corresponding flags were raised in the sky of Thessaloniki.
Subsequently, the mayor of Thessaloniki exchanged gifts with the Ambassador of France to Greece, Laurence Auer, with the event concluding with traditional Greek venues.
THE Olympic flame will spend the night tonight in Thessaloniki and tomorrow early in the morning will depart ending at the Byzantine Holy Church of Agios Panteleimonos.
