Kasper Ruud stopped Stefanos Tsitsipas’ winning streak in the final of the Barcelona Open and won the title by defeating the Greek tennis player 7-5, 6-3.

Casper Rudd got informal revenge for the lost final at the Masters of Monte Carlo from Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Norwegian tennis player took the victory over No.7 in the world with 7-5, 6-3 and won the Barcelona Open title.

This was Stefanos Tsitsipas’ 11th final loss and fourth loss at the Barcelona tournament. On the other hand, after today’s victory, Kasper Ruud managed to win the biggest title of his career, since the Norwegian had so far only won titles in 250 ATP tournaments.

Two breaks gave Rude the lead

The final started perfectly for Stefanos Tsitsipas, who with a break in the first game and a hold in the second made it 2-0. Kasper Ruud then held his own serve and tried to find a way to get the Greek’s break back. In the 5th game, the Norwegian found himself with a double break point and with Tsitsipas erasing the first, he managed to make the break back, balancing the set (3-3).

Rood managed to take the lead (4-3) and force Tsitsipas to serve twice to stay in the set. The first time the Greek was even, making it 5-5, while the second time he saw his opponent reach a double set point, which he took advantage of to take the lead in the final.

Roode’s momentum…swallowed Stefanos

The second set started with Rud holding his serve with two comfortable service games (2-1). The pace of the Norwegian was excellent, with Tsitsipas unable to find solutions. In fact, in the 4th game, Roud managed to make a love game on the Greek’s serve and break, which he took advantage of with a hold for 4-1 in the games.

Stefanos Tsitsipas on Roud’s serve failed to find solutions and all he managed to do was simply maintain theirs until the end of the match. Rudd won the set 6-3, celebrating the biggest title of his career.
