In April 1969, the Colonels organized a youth celebration at the Stadium for the two years of the regime, an event that resulted in a spontaneous and prolonged booing of Papadopoulos by thousands of students.
Today marks fifty-seven years since its military coup April 21, 1967. For the majority of Greek society, the April 21st it is the anniversary of one of the darkest moments in the history of our country, and this is because the Greek people never agreed with either the ideas or the practices of the junta, and this they tried to show at every opportunity.
On the 21st of April 1969male and female students were forced by the regime to attend the Panathenaic Stadium and attend the celebrations for the two-year anniversary of the dictatorship. The Stadium was packed early, with the Colonels scheduled to film the event, not knowing what was to come.
Thus, when the dictator George Papadopoulos took the stage to begin his speech, he “froze” from the commotion and cheering. Try as he might, he was never able to speak to the students as boos covered everything in the Stadium. This act of the students was a first, brave and resounding rejection of the military regime.

Papadopoulos was speaking his part and the students were shouting: “Olympiakos, Olympiakos”. The thieves were running, but what can they collect over there…”
