Olympiacos made the upset, came back from 1-0 and prevailed in Romania’s Arcada Galati with 3-1 sets (25-22, 18-25, 19-25, 26-28), taking the first place and also qualifying for the Champions League groups.

Olympiacos made it “3 out of 3”, scoring a legendary upset in Romania, since even though Arcada Galati took a 1-0 set lead, the red and white team turned the match around and won 1-3 sets (25-22, 18-25, 19-25, 26-28) returned after nine years in his groups Champions League.

The Greek champions took first place and this means that they will complete the first group in which Zaksa (Poland), Roselare (Belgium) and Zirat (Turkey) are.

The match

The first set was fairly even, with the Red and Whites going ahead for the first time at 10-11. Arcada had the lead from the start, but Olympiacos pressed, tied first at 8-8, then at 10-10 and finally took the lead.

The Romanians, however, returned with me three straight points took the lead in the set at 18-15. In fact, this was also the first time that one of the two teams escaped with three points.

The hosts reached the victory of the first set 25-22, with the safety lead they built almost throughout the set at 2-4 points helping them. Thus, Arcada secured their qualification to the Champions League groups. It should be noted that in the first set the red and white team only got one point from the block, while they made three mistakes more than Arcada.

In the second set, the Greek champions showed a better image, with two points off their block and pushing harder in the slot escaped with three points for the first time in the game, making it 8-11. Up to that point they had already scored three points from blocks, compared to one they had in the first set.

Sort of like that second set went to Olympiakos, who with 18-25 equalized in a 1-1 set. Their image did not change in the third set, with the red and whites taking advantage of the mistakes of their opponents, who could not reduce the difference below two points.

In fact, Olympiacos did and reached +8 making it 14-22 and then won the third set, which was also the goal, as it needed two sets to qualify. In the 4th set, Olympiacos led 20-10, but relaxed and allowed Arcada to erase four match points, tying the score at 24 all.

sealing the first place in the group with 3-1.
