Alberto Brignoli was quick to send his own message after his mistake, which led to the French team’s first goal against Panathinaikos.
Panathinaikos, despite playing for 55 minutes with one more player, lost to Rennes 3-1 after collapsing in the second half, and this defeat puts the greens in a difficult position regarding the case of qualifying for the Europa League.
Rennes found the back of the net in an unsuspecting phase, following a tragic mistake by Alberto Birnioli. The Italian keeper tried to get hold of the ball after Reeder was fouled, but it went through his hands and under his feet, ending up in the goal for 1-0 to the home side.
After the end of the match, and the second consecutive defeat of the greens in the groups of Europa League, the trefoil goalkeeper sent his own message, apologizing for his mistake.
“I apologize for the mistake. It’s part of football and life. We always have to be taught something. We’re still working to improve and believe in our goals…” he wrote characteristically in his post on Instagram.
