Giorgos Bartzokas considers that the defeat in the “eternal” derby for the championship was a bad bracket for Olympiakos.
THE Greek coach mentioned during the departure of the mission to Istanbul and the upcoming match with Fenerbahce. THE Bartzokas stated that this particular match has nothing to do with last year’s matches between the two teams for the play offs, while at the same time adding that his players Dimitris Here they will have to find solutions on how to deal with the “edrwhite people”.
Initially, Bartzokas stated about the defeat by Panathinaikos: “We don’t feel good when we lose. Always at Olympiakos, victory is the goal. But our schedule is what it is. We immediately have difficult and important obligations. We have to focus on the next one.”
He then referred to Fenerbahce: “It’s a team that clearly has talent and quality. And he certainly has a good record in the Euroleague, so far. It is obvious that we have to play very well to win. Much better than yesterday at least.”
Regarding last year’s matches between the two teams for play off: “I think it has nothing to do with it. We are talking about different groups. Different season, different form of players. What happened last year has nothing to do with this year. The game is always demanding over there. Difficult atmosphere. But it’s always basketball that counts. If you play well, you will win.”
Also, the Greek coach mentioned what Olympiacos should pay attention to in order to get the victory: “All those little important things that are necessary to win a game. The rebounds, protecting the ball, not making mistakes, having good options, playing as a team, being tough, getting the 50-50 balls. All these things, which in basketball are very important and in the end many times the timing also plays a role. A decision if the game is close. But you never know how the game will turn out. We believe that little by little we are playing better and better. It was a parenthesis yesterday’s game, because it had a lot of things that we had to manage inside and outside the team. But at the moment, the previous Euroleague game was against Efes, where we had a good performance. You also see the results, yesterday Makami won in Milan. There is no stability as to what to expect from each team. And it’s normal, because of the World Cup, because of the many injuries that are there at the moment, because of the schedule which is very heavy. So you don’t know what to expect. What you have to do is work every day and improve.”
Finally, he also spoke about the “battle” of the tall men in this particular match: “Because Mitoglou scored two shots, it doesn’t mean that at this moment Olympiacos will consider that they have a problem because they have Fal and Milutinov. He clearly sets up a situation, a tall outside shooter. After all, this happens in the NBA too. But we have our own potential and they will have to face us in the basket. So we’ll see what we’ll do.”
