Dismantling work has begun on the “974” stadium, whose Brazil-South Korea 2022 World Cup match was the last of its “life”.

The ‘974 Stadium’, built from 974 shipping containers, inspired by Qatar’s telephone prefix 00974, is one of three tournament venues that will… disappear after the completion of the 2022 World Cup ’16’ stage.

As such, the Seleção’s 4-1 win was the last match they hosted. Thus, the area that housed the stadium will give way to green and recreational areas.

World Cup 2022: “974” managed to host seven matches of the tournament

On Tuesday morning (6/12), pieces of the stadium began to be removed, with the dismantling starting ahead of schedule, as the original plan called for it not to take place until after the World Cup final.

The stadium required less construction material and therefore could be built quickly and – in theory – more economically. In addition, it can be completely disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere.

Last year, “974” hosted six matches of the Arab Cup, while in this year’s World Cup it managed to become the venue where a total of seven matches were held.

What is also interesting, apart from how and how soon it will break down, is the way it was constructed. A timelapse video of its “construction” is indeed impressive.
