Ahead of the match that will bring down the curtain on a magnificent, extravagant career of titles and records, Roger Federer uploaded a selfie “with some friends” that took the internet by storm.
In the photo, the biggest rivals of the 41-year-old Swiss’ career, the Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, with London Bridge in the background.
In the caption, the 20-time Grand Slam winner wrote: “Going out to dinner with some friends,” referring to the Laver Cup gala.
The post had over 615,000 likes on Twitter and 57,000 retweets.
The RRoger Federer plays the last match of his career against Rafael Nadal not as an opponent, but as a doubles teammate, on the first day of the Laver Cup.
The two great rivals of the last fifteen years will be side by side to represent Team Europe against the American pair of Jack Shock and Francis Tiafoe, who will represent Team World.
Federer and Nadal were opponents in 40 matches (s.s. the Spaniard has 24 wins compared to the Swiss’ 16), some of them legendary.
But Federer, whose right knee injury has kept him out of tournament play, announced last week that he would end his career at the end of the Laver Cup, playing for Team Europe under Bjorn Borg against Team World, captained by John McEnroe.
