Mateusz Ponitka was born on August 29, 1993 in Ostrów, Poland, he is 1.98m tall. and competes in positions “2” and “3”. He took his first steps in basketball from UKS Kasprowiczanka Ostrow Wielkopolski before moving to AZS Warsaw University of Technology in 2009. After his stint in the Spanish team he was transferred to the Russian Lokomotiv Kuban. After one season there he moved to BC Zenit Saint Petersburg where he remained until 2022. In the summer of 2022 he signed for the Italian Reggio Emilia, from which he left to join Panathinaikos.

In total, he has played five seasons in the Euroleague, three with BC Zenit Saint Petersburg, one with Zielona Gora and one with Asseco Prokom, averaging 8.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

In the Eurocup he played for four seasons, with Telenet Oostende, Zielona Gora and Lokomotiv Kuban averaging 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists.

In EuroBasket 2022 Ponitka led the Polish National Team to a fourth-place finish averaging 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game.
