Metropolitan of Dodoni: He insists on abortions

The Metropolitan of Dodoni, Chrysostomos, returns with an announcement, trying to revise his statements around abortions which caused strong reactions on Friday morning (2/9) in a broadcast on SKAI.

In his announcement, he speaks of a distortion of his… thinking about rape, while he also insists defends his anti-abortion position againinvoking, in fact, freedom of speech.

Then refer to people’s court with online judges” at his expense, while concluding by apologizing to men and women who have been victims of rape.

The announcement of the Metropolitan of Dodoni

“I regret to note that, today, during the TV show “Today” of the TV station SKAI where he was present, my thinking was distorted.

Perhaps I was not clear, but in no way do these statements imply that neither I, nor the ecclesiastical space I represent, understand, the fact of rape as something less than a reprehensible and traumatic act.

Our Orthodoxy embraces conception as a uniquely joyful event for humanity.

Respect for human life, wherever it comes from, is an inviolable rule of our principles.

You will permit me here to remain firmly in the opposite position to that in favor of abortion.

I want to believe that in this society we are all in the mood for an open dialogue of exchange of views and have not turned into a people’s court with online judges.

I have tried to separate consensual arrest from the heinous act of rape, where we are not talking about “arrest” in the sense that our church understands it and unfortunately I didn’t make it.

I want to apologize to any human being felt wronged by my statements and to any woman or man who has been a rape victim.”
