Damir Mulaomerovic spoke about the effort of his players, but also about the critical phase of the match, when Giannis Antetokounmpo nailed Nick Kalathy’s pass upside down.
He wasn’t disappointed, but he wasn’t happy either. Damir Mulaomerovic saw Croatia have two faces against Greece in the EuroBasket 2022 opener, he admitted that his players gave a good effort, but explained to a question from SPORT24 that he might regret the way he defended when Giannis Antetokounmpo made the reverse nail from Nick Calathes’ pass.
What Damir Mulaomerovic said in detail:
“It was a tough match, two different halves. We had trouble rebounding offensively and that made the difference. In the first five minutes we played well, but I told my players that in the next 15 we were not good. In the second half we executed better, Smith created and scored as well as others.
We came back from -19 and had our chance, but Greece, this Greece that has a really good team was hard to beat. Giannis did his job, but Dorsey “killed” us in the first half. I can’t say anything to my players, they fought especially in the second half. From now on, we cannot underestimate any team, they are all quality. We have to win the next match.
We risked Giannis’ shot, because he is very athletic. It is very difficult to deal with him. I’m not unhappy, we had to send a lot of players on him and foul him a lot. We didn’t succeed, especially at the end. Maybe I regret the last phase, because we didn’t play good defense on him and he scored after a long pass.”
