A tragedy occurred at noon on Sunday at the beach of Nea Flogitos in Chalcidicewhen one A 15-year-old boy was recovered deadwhile he was bathing with his company.
Under so far unspecified circumstances, the minor he was found unconscious by other bathers in the sea who pulled him up to the beach. An ambulance was immediately called to the scene EKAB, while people of the village ran to offer them first aid for his resuscitation (CPR), unfortunately without result.
As reported by protothema.gr, the president of the local community of Young Singers, Angelos Ioannidisas soon as he was informed of the tragic event he rushed me defibrillator at the site in order to render first aid to the unfortunate child, but it was already too late, as it had ended.
“We are all shocked and do not know exactly how the sad incident happened. We know that the group of children were from Skydra and had come on a one-day excursion by bus. They did not know how to bathe and the child probably drowned“, said Mr. Ioannidis, noting that the unfortunate 15-year-old was with seven other young friends of his and they were swimming at a beach bar in the area.
“The child was taken out unconscious, we don’t know how long he had been in the water. There was a lifeguard at the scene, they gave him CPR but unfortunately he did not respond and was unable to recover. As the children said, in the beginning they were talking to their friend and he was not responding, but they thought he was joking. By the time they realized what was happening it was too late,” he noted.
As soon as the young man was pulled unconscious to land, bathers who realized what was happening ran to help and call for help. “The incident happened around 12:30 p.m. We ran with defibrillators and did what we could, the ambulance also came, but it was too late. The situation is very difficult and we cannot recover after what we have faced”, underlined the president of the Community.
The 15-year-old was taken by ambulance to Moudania Health Center where he was pronounced dead. The first indications from the Coast Guard are that the minor drowned, but a necropsy will be conducted to fully clarify the causes of the tragedy. One of the scenarios being considered is that the 15-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming in the sea.
