The big fire that had broken out in Skala Potamia, Thassos, rekindled shortly before midnight.
According to information, the weather conditions in the area are unfavorable as the intensity of the winds increased and the fire is directed low towards the settlement.
Ground forces are operating at the scene, while the aerial vehicles started at the first light of day.
It is recalled that the fiery front was brought under control on Friday morning, after a gigantic mobilization, however the Authorities remained on alert for fear of a resurgence, a scenario that was finally confirmed.
In fact, the intensity of the resurgence was so great that the flames became – again – visible from Xanthi.

34 forest fires in the past 24 hours
It is noted that from 18.00 on 11/8/2022 to 18.00 on 12/8/2022, 34 forest fires occurred.
According to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis & Civil Protection (www.civilprotection.gr), a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted for tomorrow, Saturday, August 13, 2022.
An appeal is addressed to our fellow citizens:
- Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire.
- Monitor forest fire prevention information available on the website and official accounts of the Fire Service, Facebook and Twitter.
- In the event that they notice a fire, they should immediately notify the Fire Service by dialing 199.
