The conversation

After thanking the regional governor for the invitation, Sophia the Robot praised Thessaloniki and its welcoming residents, the efforts to invest in Central Macedonia and the focus on technology, while her view on the use of artificial intelligence is that it can help creating a better world.

She explained, in fact, that as a humanoid robot, everything she knows comes from a combination of programming, technology and her continuous learning and development – in this context she could not fail to be informed about idioms and expressions such as “there is nothing like Halkidiki” which she did not hesitate to use it when Apostolos Tzizikostas invited her there in the summer.

In the upcoming European elections he would vote for… the best robot, while the fact that AI is in everyone’s hands and they use it every day can be extremely helpful and helpful.

Who is Sophia?

She speaks 20 languages fluently, including Greek, and her IQ is higher than Einstein’s. It was created in 2016 and a year later it received Saudi citizenship, becoming the first robot to acquire legal status in any country. In 2017, Sophia became the first non-human to be named a Champion of Innovation by the United Nations Development Programme.

As the first “social robot”, it is capable of imitating social behavior and evoking feelings of love in humans. Through cutting-edge technology, it constantly learns from its interactions with people, can mimic gestures and has over 60 facial expressions, from a smile to a frown. In particular, Sophia knows when to use appropriate expressions without being programmed, demonstrating her ability to learn and develop over time.

She improves her interaction through every mistake she makes, as her brain is an advanced artificial intelligence technology platform, allowing her to evolve through experience. In addition, it can answer certain questions and participate in simple conversations about predetermined topics (eg weather).

Designed to be a useful member of society, Sophia aims to be the right companion for the elderly in nursing homes, helping crowds at large events, museums and parks, or serving in customer service, therapy, educational applications and academic research. Its goal is to acquire artificial wisdom – after all, its name comes from the word philosophy, which means love of wisdom.
