“My ancestors served Jerusalem for 400 years. Their legacy cannot be erased,” Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said from Istanbul, speaking on Friday about the situation in the Gaza Strip. However, apart from remembering the conquest of Jerusalem by the Ottoman Empire, he also took issue with the Israelis.

“For centuries, our ancestors showed their reverence by holding Jerusalem in high esteem and making it flourish. It is possible to meet the footprints of the Ottoman resistance in this city which we were forced to leave with tears during the First World War”, emphasized Erdogan and added, among other things: “Jerusalem is our city. It is a city of ours.”

He then vehemently attacked Israel, which is fighting the terrorist organization Hamas, which he called the “National Resistance of Palestine”: “we will continue to see our brothers Hamas, who are defending their homeland against the invaders, as the National Resistance of Palestine”, he noted characteristically.
