Students in Paris, France, today blocked access to the university’s prestigious Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), calling on the institution to condemn Israel’s actions, in a protest echoing similar protests on US college campuses.

Student protests around the world against the war in Gaza are escalating

Shouting pro-Palestinian slogans, the students hung Palestinian flags from windows and over the building’s entrance. Many wore the traditional Palestinian headscarf, the kefiya, which has become a symbol of solidarity with Gaza.

No to war and genocide in Gaza, say the students in Paris as well.

“When we see what’s happening in the United States and now in Australia, we really hope it happens here in France, academia has a role to play,” says Hisham, 22, a graduate student in human rights and humanitarian studies at Sciences Po.

The students, he says, are asking the Institute for Political Studies to condemn Israel’s actions.

“We’re very happy that students at more and more universities are mobilizing,” says 20-year-old Zoe, a graduate student in public administration at Sciences Po.

“We hope it will spread to all universities and beyond … we will not give up until the genocide in Gaza stops.”

Sciences Po officials did not respond to a request for comment.
