A new case of domestic violence in Thessaloniki with a victim of a 46-year-old woman and the couple’s 13-year-old son is shocking.
Perpetrator of the domestic violence case, the 50-year-old husband from Thessaloniki, who allegedly rushed to beat his wife and their minor child, when the 46-year-old asked him for money to pay for the child’s private lessons.
The 46-year-old woman speaks to newsit.gr and shocks by describing what she lived with her husband and the father of their child:
“I lived 14 years with this man. It was a very difficult life with fear and pain. I remember that even the first time I was pregnant we had argued and he wanted to leave. He is a very violent man. He has a lot of nerves and doesn’t care about anything. Neither does our child. For so many years I had to swallow all these feelings that living with him caused me.”
“I felt fear. Due to financial problems, however, and for the sake of the child, I stayed and did not leave. Until I couldn’t take it anymore. I was putting too much pressure on myself. A good conversation I never heard. He raised his hand and rushed with great ease even to the child. I was trying to push him away. I was trying to keep the family but I was the only one trying. I felt angry and frustrated. He only cared about himself. I was always mindful of him not doing anything bad. For this reason I also collected and hid the knives from our house. He was very dangerous. He could do anything.”
Hit the kid
“Last Monday I asked him to leave us some money, specifically 20 euros, because the child needed to do some private lessons in Mathematics. He replied that he was not interested and told me to go find money myself. get angry he rushed at me, the child came to protect me. Hit the kid tooattacked him and scratched it on his hands.
And since this has happened before, my child has asked me to take the 100 several times and file a complaint. And now I reported it. I also swore it to myself. I have now sued him. With a lot of fear but I said I have to do it. Now both me and my child are trying to overcome all this and with the help of a psychologist to continue our lives”.
The 50-year-old man was arrested following the woman’s complaint and on Wednesday 24/04 he was brought to trial at the Autonomous Three-member Misdemeanor Court of Thessaloniki where he was found guilty of the charge of serial domestic threats and sentenced to 18 months in prison. The court decided to suspend the execution of the sentence on the condition that the man move away from the house where the woman and the child live and that he is not allowed to approach them within 100 meters.
