A woman ended up fighting for her life after drinking coffee from a vending machine at an airport Spains.

The 21-year-old, who works for an airline, bought the coffee from a vending machine at Son Sant Joan airport near the Mallorcan capital Palma.

After the first sip he felt a strange taste and opened the coffee glass which was full of insects.

Anaphylactic shock

She then went into anaphylactic shock, which caused her face to swell and her throat to close and she struggled to breathe, the Mirror reports.

She also developed “various swellings” on her skin. The woman was rushed to hospital and spent 36 hours in intensive care before being discharged yesterday.

In the April 22 incident, the woman was given adrenaline and other medication by airport health services before being rushed to a Palma clinic.

Her family has since filed a complaint against the airport with the National Police. They argue that the presence of insects in coffee constitutes a potential crime against public health and reckless harm.

The family claimed the vending machine was poorly maintained by airport staff.

It has since closed.
