Even today (23.04.24) the electronic platform of the AADE for submitting income tax returns for 2023 is expected to open.

It is noted that this year approximately 1,000,000 employees and pensioners are given the opportunity not to have to submit their tax returns themselves, but for AADE to do so automatically for them.

The new minimum presumptive income regime, which applies for the first time to around 735,000 freelancers and the self-employed, has led the Independent Inland Revenue Authority to make substantial changes, both to tax office forms and internal procedures, in order to correctly fill in the new codes.

Submission extension

However, even before the tax returns are opened, the Ministry of Finance has decided to extend the deadline for completion and submission until at least the end of July, due to a delay in opening the relevant AADE platform.

This year’s tax return submission process, although there will be no substantial changes to the tax forms apart from those concerning freelancers, is significantly different compared to previous years as it is the first time that those who have income exclusively from wages and pensions not to bother with completing and submitting the E1 as all the information will be pre-populated by the Independent Inland Revenue Authority.

In practice, this means that if someone belongs to the above category of taxpayers and does not enter the AADE platform at all to complete and submit their declaration. The submission process will be completed normally, automatically and on time.
