Civil protection crews in Gaza discovered mass graves with at least 180 bodies in the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis. The grisly findings come after Israeli forces withdrew on April 7 from the southern region after months of relentless shelling and fierce fighting.

“In the courtyard of the hospital, members of the civil defense and paramedics recovered 180 bodies buried in this mass grave by the Israeli army. The bodies include old women, children and young men,” Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Khan Younis, said on Sunday.

Earlier this week, a mass grave was discovered at Al Shifa Hospital after a two-week siege

In a statement on Saturday, the Palestinian emergency services said: “Our teams are continuing search and recovery operations for the remaining witnesses (ss dead) in the coming days, as there is still a significant number of bodies.”

Earlier this week, a mass grave was discovered at Al Shifa Hospital after a two-week siege. It was one of several mass graves found at Al Shifa, the largest medical facility in the coastal enclave.

Macabre findings

“We found bodies without heads, bodies without skins and some had their organs stolen,” the director general of the government press office in Gaza said in a statement, referring to the mass graves found in the Nasser Hospital area.

Rescuers retrieve the bodies while people gather to identify their relatives

Rescuers say some bodies were found inside plastic bags with Hebrew writing on them. Some have their hands tied behind their backs and appear to have been executed and then buried here.

“Within the last half hour, we’ve seen a group of people coming here – crying parents, family members – looking for the bodies of their loved ones,” Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud said.

The dead in Gaza have exceeded 34,000, with 2/3 being women and children.

Benjamin Netanyahu is sticking to his plans for a ground intervention in Rafah, where more than 1.4 million Palestinians are crammed, and warned on Sunday afternoon that Israel would pressure Hamas militarily and politically in the near future.
