Shocking video posted online shows a reservist living in the Israeli-controlled West Bank sustaining minor injuries by kicking a Palestinian flag. The incident happened on Sunday morning.
According to news18.com, the waving Palestinian flag was rigged with an improvised explosive device. The man has been identified as 28-year-old Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reservist Israel Levi.
The soldier was slightly injured
After the blast, the Israeli was taken to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Hospital. “It was a serious bomb but luckily I kicked it and it went off to the side and not on me.
I am not afraid of anything. We will arrest everyone who did this,” Levi said according to Ynet. The incident occurred near the West Bank settlement of Kohav HaShahar along Route 458 when it exploded.
How Twitter reacted
The video of the incident went viral on social media leaving netizens divided, with some concerned about the man’s condition and others questioning his decision to walk all the way from his car to kick a flag that was lying off the road.
This is a sign that tensions between Israelis and Palestinians remain high in the West Bank due to long-standing problems between Israeli settlers and Palestinian villagers, as well as the ongoing war in Gaza.
It is noted that Israeli settlements in the West Bank are considered illegal because they violate the Fourth Geneva Convention, which prohibits the transfer of civilians to occupied territories.
