In the hands of the Police fell a gang that had raided houses in Attica where they entered as “electricians” and “elevator maintenance”.
On Wednesday morning, the authorities arrested 4 Greeks aged 21, 24, 27 and 39, while two more members of the gang are being sought. The defendants are accused of stealing from homes of the elderly in areas of the southern suburbs.
The way they operated was as follows: They would locate houses where the elderly lived and then ring the bells pretending to be electricity company employees or elevator maintenance people who were visiting them allegedly for a power leak or elevator malfunction.
When they were persuaded and entered the houses, one would undertake to occupy the victim and the other members would search the premises and remove money and jewelry.
In fact, in one case they convinced a victim to collect money and jewelry himself in aluminum foil to protect them from the work and then stole them.
So far, 9 cases of theft have been solved in Alimo, Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza.
From the searches carried out in their homes, the clothes that had been used in the thefts, jewelry, watches, cameras, along with a recording machine, a calyx, preparations for improving sports performance and the sum of 2,300 euros were confiscated.
It is estimated that the loot from the robberies exceeds 190,000 euros. It is noted that the accused have in the past concerned the Authorities for similar crimes.
