A 22-year-old Palestinian national who appears in a video circulating on social media raising his country’s flag during a rally at the Syntagma on Sunday, November 5, 2023, was identified and taken into custody Tuesday morning, Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

A criminal case was filed against him, while a preliminary investigation is being conducted by the State Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate.

According to ELAS, the 22-year-old is accused based on article 141 of the Criminal Code which provides: “Whoever, with his intention and by any actions, exposes the Greek state or its ally or their residents to the risk of reprisals or exposes to the risk of disrupting the friendly relations of the Greek state or its ally with a foreign state, shall be punished by imprisonment of three months to three years. If the retaliation actually occurred because of his actions, he is punishable by at least three years in prison.”

However, it is clear that according to the eyewitnesses o 22-year-old never lowered the Greek flag, he just put it right next to the Palestinian one.

The photos prove the word to be true.

The incident took place last Sunday during the demonstration in favor of the Palestinian people. The young man, at the risk of his physical integrity, climbed the pole and placed the Palestinian group right next to the Greek one.

The incident was circulated through social media, where the Palestinian was prematurely “judged” by users who claimed that he had no right to proceed with such a move.

Then fake news was circulated according to which the young man removed the Greek flag.

Now how this move endangers the country in relation to its ally, it would be good to explain. However, the demonstrations in Europe in favor of the Palestinian people are much more voluminous than in Greece.
