Germany: Croatian foreign minister charged with sexual harassment after ‘brutal’ kiss with Analena Burbok goes viral
A near diplomatic incident occurred when the Croatian Foreign Minister Gordon Grlich-Rudman tried to kiss his German counterpart Analena Burbock as they posed for the ‘family photo’ in Berlin during an EU conference on Thursday (2/11).
It was “a warm, human approach to a colleague” said the Croatian minister who, however, admitted that “it might have been a bit awkward” and was quick to apologise. The Croatian foreign minister shook hands with the German foreign minister and then leaned forward to kiss her.
Many Croatian media outlets were quick to criticize him, with women’s rights activist Rada Boric describing the incident as “extremely inappropriate”. “Forcibly kissing a woman is violence, isn’t it?” asked former Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor.
Associates of the German foreign minister said the Croatian minister was late for the photo and therefore wanted to greet Ms Merbock with Bild reporting sources comment: it was a clumsy attempt to quickly greet each other.
