The death of the man found under the metal bridge in the Aradaina Gorge in Sfakia is due to suicide.

He is a 43-year-old Greek-Canadian who has been in Crete for the last few days.

According to information from cretapost, the unfortunate man had been seen by local residents in the village since January 29.

He was spotted by a tourist

It all happened today at noon when a tourist notified the authorities that a man was unconscious under the metal bridge in the Aradaina Gorge in Sfakia.

Immediately two fire engines with four men rushed to the scene and started a search operation which ended a few minutes after 5 pm, while the police were also called at the same time.

According to information from cretapost, during their autopsy in the surrounding area, the police found a vehicle with customs plates and the 43-year-old’s personal belongings were found inside.

It is recalled that the unfortunate man was spotted at noon on Tuesday by a walker who immediately called for help.

At the scene of the tragedy, a large operation was set up by the fire service with the participation of four men from the Anopoli fire station and from the Vrisso Fire Station.
