Appeal to residents not to leave the house
A severe wave of bad weather hit the Marche region of central Italy in the last few hours with Ancona being flooded.
The downpour hit the district of Ancona, where the roads turned into rivers and until now the fate of five people is unknown. Among them is a young mother and her child.
The area is isolated and the police, the carabinieri, the Civil Protection and the fire service have been mobilized to deal with the situation.
In the flooded village of Candiano, the water reached the first floor of the houses, while the electricity supply and telephone connections have been cut off in the wider area.
The authorities appealed to the residents not to leave the house and not to use I.X. cars.
