A month has passed since the merciless bombardment of the Gaza Strip by the occupying state of Israel began.
Almost half of the victims of Israeli atrocities are children. Dozens of children die every day, sometimes hundreds. Thousands of children were left without parents and without childhood dreams.
The following is a lullaby written and composed by the famous songwriter Marcel Khalifa, inspired by the traditional lullabies of Lebanon and Palestine, widely used in the Middle East. This particular performance is by Umaima Elhalil
Dedicated to all the children of Palestine who instead of drawing balloons, flowers, suns, write their names on their bodies to identify them if they die. Who have to sleep for more than a month and do not know if they will wake up the next day, and yet they will dream of a free and peaceful homeland called Palestine”.
Thanks to Fouad, Eleni, Maxim and Nada who sent the song and the text and translated the lyrics into Greek.
The lyrics:
“Sleep, sleep my little one,
sleep on the mat
sleep in the dark, until the cloud is gone
and to have a light sufficient to illuminate the whole neighborhood
sleep sleep baby
sleep on the mat
Father is coming tomorrow
with the revenue from the lemons
brings skirt and shawl
to keep you warm in December
Oh beautiful and clever little one
with black hair
whoever loves you gives you kisses
what does he who hates you gain?
sleep sleep baby
sleep on the mat
sleep in the dark, until the cloud is gone
and to have a light sufficient to illuminate the whole neighborhood”.
