The award-winning film “EO” starring a donkey, is Poland’s proposal for this year’s Oscars.
THE Poland chose the laureate at the Cannes festival “EO» by Jerzy Skolimowski to send as official proposal in the international race for the this year’s Oscars.
The dramatic film won the jury prize and soundtrack award at Cannes and is set to screen at next month’s Toronto International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival, according to Deadline.
‘EO’ marks the director’s first film after seven years and follows the travels of a donkey born in a Polish circus in the Polish and Italian countryside, experiencing cruelty, exploitation and kindness in equal measure.
“EO” is emotional, wonderful cinema. It moves and makes you think deeply about the state of the modern world.
During his journey, the lovable quadruped helps (as well as troubles) a cast of characters that includes a young Italian priest (Lorenzo Zurzolo), a countess (Isabelle Huppert) and a rowdy Polish soccer team. Skolimowski puts the viewer in the shoes of his four-legged protagonist, speaking to the world around us, highlighting social ills, while serving as a warning about the dangers of neglect and inaction in a quest for freedom.
The film is inspired by “Au Hasard Balthazar” by Robert Bresson.
